In the beginning...

We moved into our Edwardian semi in July 2011. We have plans to extend and renovate our house over the next few years. My intention is to record our progress, and save all my design ideas in this blog.

WE are:

Suzie and Alastair Douglas, and our four children.
We live in Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire.

Before we moved to Wensley, we had looked at many houses to buy. We found it practically impossible to find a house large enough to accommodate us all, within our budget.
When Wensley came up for sale in February 2011 I had almost given up. I walked into the house on Valentine's Day 2011, and just knew immediately that this was the house for us. With a wealth of original features, high ceilings, large rooms and a good sized garden, it was just what we had been looking for. The house had been untouched for many years, and so retained all it's original character - along with outdated plumbing, electrics and a tiny kitchen downstairs that was just begging to be extended.

We moved in in July, with our fourth baby due in September.

Our first job was to spruce up the interior with a lick of paint. Many of the windows were rotting, and much of the paint had peeled back to bare wood. We also had the exterior painted and the existing windows stripped and repainted. This instantly gave the whole house a lift, and made it a nicer place to live with small children, as we contemplate how to progress from here.
